Eduard van Renssen  ǁǁ  Director: Managing

BEng (Civil)  PrEng (ECSA)  AAArb


Eduard’s technical training and work experience has been but not restricted to the Transportation Engineering industry, mostly covering the following disciplines:

  • Highways
  • Traffic Engineering
  • Pavement Design
  • Geometric Design


Mr van Renssen is a professional engineer registered with the Engineering Council of South  Africa (ECSA) and has extensive experience in the design, compiling of documentation, tender procedures including adjudication as well as implementation supervision in the civil engineering environment.


His experience on projects varies from water-, roads and civil infrastructure related projects throughout Southern Africa, and has completed projects both as designer and project manager.


The core experience of Mr van Renssen is in roads related projects, and he has successfully designed and constructed various roads related projects mostly in South Africa, but also in countries like Kenya and Mozambique. The design experience includes geometric design, pavement design and tender documentation, as well as quality control and construction monitoring and project management.


Mr van Renssen has started as engineer at BKS in the Roads Division and junior engineer, moved to a private company VRF (later AEPA) where he established and managed regional offices and was responsible for the full spectrum of engineering work including marketing and client liaison. Mr van Renssen became a Director at VRF and took up the position of Divisional Manager for both the Design Office and Construction Implementation. During this stage he managed all regional offices, all production on design drawings and documentation in the design offices and the implementation management of all projects of the firm.


Mr van Renssen resigned in 2008 and established his own Civil Engineering Consulting Firm (LEO Consulting), and has since established a successful practise serving Clients in the Engineering Industry.  This includes Clients from the Private Sector (National and International), Public Sector like Local and District Municipalities, Provincial Governments, SANRAL and RAL.


Mr van Renssen fulfils the role of Office Manager, Project Manager/Leader and Design Specialist on a number of multi-disciplinary projects.

Jan Hamman  ǁǁ  Director: Design

BTech (Civil)


Mr Hamman has been in the Civil Engineering industry for 28 years and has been involved with Municipal Infrastructure Services and Provincial Roads.


These services include the following activities :

  • Conceptual Design and Need Analysis of a Project
  • Preliminary Design and Detail Design of all the Civil Infrastructure, Road, Storm Water, Sewerage and Water Services
  • Documentation and Costing of all the Services
  • Administration and Programme Management of the Projects


Mr Hamman’s technical training and work experience have been in Infrastructure Development, covering the following disciplines:

  • Storm Water Management and Master Plan for Municipalities and Mines
  • Floodline Determination
  • Project Management
  • RDP Housing Development
  • Floodlines and Substation Design
  • Infrastructure Development

MC Barnard  ǁǁ  Director: Marketing & QA

BEng (Civil)(Hons) (Geotechnical)  PrEng (ECSA) R.Eng (EngRB Zambia)


Mr Barnard has specialised in the fields of Pavement and Materials engineering through extensive experience and post-graduate studies.  His experience includes ten years of construction supervision on various road construction projects, including rehabilitation projects in Southern Africa.


Mr Barnard also has extensive road design experience, both in the fields of geometric design and pavement/rehabilitation design, as well as some experience in the fields of Traffic engineering and Airport engineering.  His extensive experience enables him to put innovative proposals forward to the design engineers in his supervisory capacity.  Mr Barnard joined the LEO Consulting Group in April 2012 as Professional Engineer and Shareholder where he fulfilled the various duties of Resident Engineer, Project Manager and Pavement Specialist.


His normal duties include the management of the pavement engineering department, as well as the technical aspects of all pavement related projects conducted by the company. He also fulfils the role of Project Leader / Project Manager on a number of multi-disciplinary transportation projects.

Peter Ng'anjo  ǁǁ  Director: Design

MScEng (Civil)  PrEng (ECSA) R.Eng (EngRB Zambia)


Mr Ng’angjo has a total of 20 years’ experience all in the field of roads and bridges. Most of this experience obtained in Sub-Saharan Africa. Mr Ng’anjo is an expert Pavement/Materials Engineer.


Mr Ng’anjo’s experience are as follows:

  • Design and construction of road and bridge related projects
  • Extensive experience in Feasibility Studies, Preliminary and Detailed Design, Preparation of Bid and Contract Documents, Evaluation of Bids
  • Extensive experience in design and construction of flexible, cement and bitumen treated pavements, as well as rigid concrete pavements
  • Setting up and management of soil testing laboratories
  • Road materials testing and quality control, road centreline subgrade investigations, road condition surveys
  • Detailed pavement design, including intrusive soils’ investigation and borrow pit identification
  • Pavement rehabilitation design, including determination of remaining life by means of back-calculation of
    FWD measurements
  • Monitoring of pavement performance and formulation of rehabilitation and maintenance strategies for performance based concession projects (Pavement Specialist for N1 North Toll Road Concession project in South Africa over a 10 year period)
  • Development and implementation of Pavement Management Systems
  • Management of routine and periodic maintenance contracts for road authorities
  • Experienced in planning, design and supervision of materials source studies, site investigations, pavement condition surveys, and testing
  • Evaluation of various materials used in pavement rehabilitation including optimal use of existing pavement materials
  • Extensive experience in road projects funded by International Development Agencies
  • Intimate knowledge of SATCC Design Guidelines for Pavement Design and Pavement Rehabilitation
  • Intimate knowledge of SATCC, South African and COLTO Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Works and FIDIC Conditions of Contract for Employer Designed Works
